What Is Your "Win" Today?

Here is some good advice that was recently shared with me.

Each day, define what a "win" looks like for you and put forth the effort to accomplish that one thing. Therefore, even if the rest of the day did not go as hoped, you still have that one win.

Now, this was not necessarily new advice. The planner I use has a prompt to define a daily "win." I have even given that advice myself. However, as often happens, in the muck of trying to navigate the challenges presented each day, we can easily forget to follow the strategies we know to be good.

2017 has been a stressful year for many people. I have even heard that 2017 is being known as the "Year of Anxiety." For me and my family, this includes losing almost everything in the flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. Which, by the way, was our second life-changing natural disaster as we also were affected by the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina. 2017 has also been a year of joy. I was fortunate enough to be able to take the family to Disneyland in California and explore a part of the country that we had yet to visit.

For most people, the year presented both highs and lows. When you reflect on the year, you might find that the positives were often items you had control over; that you decided to do. The negatives can often feel like circumstances slightly (or extremely) out of our control. That is why reminding ourselves to decide on our "win" each day is important. The "win" you choose is the one thing you can own each day.

In my case, getting up to write this post was a "win."

With gratitude,

Troy
